The
Community Child Guidance Clinic
(CCGC) helps children and families with their mental health needs.
In addition to Manchester residents, the Clinic serves families
living in Andover, Bolton, Columbia, Coventry, East Hartford, Ellington,
Glastonbury, Hebron, Marlborough, South Windsor, Stafford, Tolland
and Vernon.
CCGC
serves 550 families with children ages birth to 18 each year, regardless
of the family's ability to pay. The Clinic has established
a number of programs and services designed to address the variety
of emotional, social and behavioral difficulties that these children
experience. The programs are aggressive and responsive to
crises while maintaining outreach and preventative components.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES Direct
Clinical Services In
this program, families apply directly to the Clinic for help with
any social, emotional or behavioral problem in a child under 18.
Following an initial screening process, families work with a team
of therapists who evaluate the situation and develop a treatment
plan. The Clinic and the families decide together when termination
from the program is appropriate.
Community
Child Guidance School The
school serves up to 35 children at a time who are between the ages
of six and 12 and who, because of social, emotional or behavioral
reasons, cannot function in a public school setting. Children
attend six hours per day, Monday through Friday, and are referred
to the program by their local school system. The school offers
a very low teacher/student ratio, and the faculty is made up of
special education teachers and specially trained assistants.
Each child is given clinical as well as educational services, and
the family is closely involved in treatment.
Sexual
Abuse Treatment Team (SATT) The
SATT is a multi-disciplinary, family-focused treatment program for
children who have been sexually abused. The primary goals
of the program are to protect the child and prevent further sexual
abuse. The team works closely with DCF in all cases, and is
available to testify in court if needed.
Birth
to Five Early Intervention Program This
program offers assessments and a variety of treatment options, at
times in coordination with other early childhood agencies, for very
young children and their families. Therapeutic care may include
parent support groups, family therapy, and individual and play therapy.
The treatment team includes a child psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist,
a psychiatric social worker, a developmental specialist and, if
needed, a developmental pediatrician.
Firehawk
Program Working
in conjunction with the Manchester and Vernon Fire Departments,
the Firehawk Program directs juvenile fire setters into counseling
when appropriate. The project plays a significant role in
reducing arson-related property loss and recidivism among fire setters.
Wrap
Around the Child (WATCH)
WATCH
provides individually tailored, intensive, home-based services to
DCF-referred children and their families. Services include
crisis intervention, case management, counseling and parent education,
and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The program
seeks to maintain children in their homes and community.
